M&M'S® everywhere
There's nothing "plain" about Armer's collection

The world of M&M'S® is Pam Armer’s playground. She wears a M&M'S® cap and T-shirt from time to time and relaxes in M&M'S® pajamas and slippers that a friend made for her. Despite her heart condition, Armer still tempts her taste buds of new M&M'S® flavors when they hit the market. “I can’t have the caffeine,” she said. Having the chocolate around really doesn’t bother Armer. When she has an excess amount around, she shares it with co-workers at the office to get rid of the supply. Armer began collecting M&M'S® paraphernalia four years ago when someone gave her an M&M'S® dispenser as a gift. “I fell in love and have collected ever since,” she said. “They are cute and lovable, and who doesn’t love M&M'S®?” Some 1,500 pieces later, Armer’s collection is going strong. Her pieces are spread out between work, home and her vehicle. Armer is the only one in her family that collects M&M'S®, “but it’s gotten to where my entire family will call me from wherever they find an M&M product and ask if I have the piece,” she said. She recently visited M&M World in Las Vegas. M&M'S World® is said to be the most delicious attraction in Vegas. The four-story 26,000 square-foot extravaganza is complete with a Colorworks section, which is where you will find every color of plain and peanut M&M'S® under the rainbow. It’s located across the street from the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. Armer and M&M'S®collection pal Sandee Killian will be the hosts of the 2004 Louisiana Picnic Swap Meet on July 17. A crowd of M&M'S® collectors will fill Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic School at the free event that will be held 10:30a.m. – 5 p.m. at 1111 Cypress Street in Sulphur. Armer and Killian are already expecting guests from as far as Virginia and Alabama. Anyone interested in M&M'S® collecting may attend. Armer, a member of the M&M'S® Collectors Club, says her collection means a lot to her because most of her collection was given to her by people that love her, so it’s all special. Her most unusual pieces are a package of caramel M&M'S® and collectible Danbury Mint Trains. “The trains are probably one of the more expensive items in my collection,” Armer said. She began collecting them two years ago when they actually signed a contract with Mars to do the trains. “There are going to be four to five total trains in the collection, and they come out once each year at Christmas,” she said. Each train is hand painted and numbered for the specific person who orders them. “Which means, each train I receive from them will have the same number.” Since the trains have come out, Danbury Mint has also offered a M&M'S® calendar and plate, which will soon be added to Armer’s collection in the next couple of months. In addition to preparing for the meet, Armer is also busy building her collection. Her most prized items are the collectible Danbury Mint Trains. She would probably consider trading in the future, but would never sell her collection. Armer would like to add an M&M'S® lampshade lamp, white-chocolate M&M'S® from Australia and a 5-foot blue M&M'S® display to her collection.
